Introduction to the Bible Lands
The Introduction to the Bible Lands course visits key biblical sites from the Old and New Testaments, including a few places not commonly on our Footsteps of Jesus and Palestine of Jesus courses. Our shortest study pilgrimage (8 full days), the course traverses the principal regions and landscapes of the Holy Land in Israel and the West Bank, visiting archaeological parks, church sites, and museums. Integrating education and spirituality, the course consists of lecture briefings and on-site teaching as well as time for reflection, prayer, and worship. The course includes a two-day / one-night trip to the Galilee (For an advanced course, see The Bible Lands: Level 2 which will be offered in 2024).

All-inclusive Absent Airfare
Introduction to the Bible Lands is an immersive 8-day study pilgrimage (9 calendar days) designed to introduce participants to the geography, history, and living communities (“Living Stones”) of the Holy Land. Traversing key regions of Israel and Palestine, the course offers a rich encounter with biblical landscapes from both the Old and New Testaments. As our shortest study pilgrimage, it is ideal for first-time visitors to the Holy Land and for returning pilgrims seeking a meaningful refresher course.
What’s included in the program?
The course visits key biblical places from the Old and New Testaments, including most (but not all) landscapes associated with the life and ministry of Jesus. It also includes a few places not commonly featured in our other courses. With a focus on the land—and the material culture of the Bible—the program includes archaeological parks and museums. Contemporary issues of the Bible Lands are also engaged, though in less depth than in our longer courses. The course includes a 2-day/1-night trip to the Galilee. Each iteration varies, but the program generally includes:
- Biblical Jerusalem. From the First and Second Temple periods (from the time of David and Solomon through Jesus’ day), including the City of David and remains of Herod’s Temple complex.
- Holy Week Commemorations. The Mount of Olives, Gethsemane, the Via Dolorosa, and the Holy Sepulchre.
- Biblical Judea. Bethlehem and, when possible, Hebron or Herodium.
- Biblical Samaria. Sites such as Shiloh, Mt Gerizim, Jacob’s Well, ancient Shechem, and Sebastia.
- Jordan River Valley. The Judean Wilderness, Jordan River, Jericho, and the Dead Sea, including renewal of baptismal vows at Jesus’ baptismal site.
- Galilee (2‑day/1‑night excursion). Nazareth and Sea of Galilee sites associated with Jesus’ ministry.
- Archaeological Sites. Including the Israel Museum.

In the Words of Our Pilgrims
“This was so much more than visiting the places I had read about. Scripture, worship and community came together in a way I will carry with me.”
Now, I can see and understand what I had heard all of my life. The experience was beyond comparison; it was humbling, and I received such a blessing.

We rode the gondola up and walked down. It was an excellent day and incredible views and a nice dip in the Dead Sea. I was the lone Canadian with many Aussies and a few Americans. Incredible memories!
