Description

We are very pleased to announce that the Women of the Bible Study Pilgrimage will go ahead in October this year. Whilst the situation in the Holy Land is still one of great pain, the College believes that it is possible to offer safe pilgrimages again. With all that has been suffered and continues, pilgrimages should be different and must be an act of solidarity with Palestinian Christians who have especially suffered with the lack of pilgrims during the period of this fearful war.

We are especially delighted that once again Canon Dr. Paula Gooder has agreed to co-lead this pilgrimage with Revd. Dr. Rodney Aist, and this is an opportunity not to be missed. The focus on the Women of the Bible means that women’s perspectives, stories and experiences, so crucial in Old and New Testaments and today, far too often neglected, will be given the central focus. We find that this is a welcome reframing for both women and men who join this course as pilgrims.

Most of the usual pilgrim sites are available to visit, including Bethlehem in the West Bank but some special visits will be arranged to hear Palestinian voices and dissenting Jewish voices too.

This study pilgrimage is open to everyone, individuals as well as parish and diocesan groups. We expect demand to be high so please book early via the College website: www.saintgeorgescollegejerusalem.com

The cost of this ten day course is US$2750(excluding flights)

Canon Dr. Paula Gooder is a speaker and writer on the Bible, particularly the New Testament. After eight years as a freelance speaker and writer, Paula joined the Bible Society as Theologian in Residence followed by a period with the Birmingham Diocese as their Director of Mission Learning and Development. Paula is currently the Chancellor of St Paul’s Cathedral, London, where she has oversight of their education programme. Paula is the author of many books including Parables (2020), Women of Holy Week (2022), Phoebe: A Story (2018) and Lydia: A Story (2022).
