St. George’s College is pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Joseph T. Rivers as Chaplain to the College, commencing Mid-June 2018.

Joe and his wife Carolyn are well acquainted with the College and the Land. Joe taught at the College in the 1990’s as a Visiting Professor. Carolyn is a graduate of the former “ten week course.”  She is a veteran of eleven archeological seasons in the Middle East and a former chair of the Outreach Education Committee of the American Schools of Oriental Research.  They are both Associate Fellows of the William Foxwell Albright Institute of Archeological Research.

Joe is a retired priest of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania and currently supplies regularly at St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church, Charles Town, in the Diocese of West Virginia.  He has served congregations in North Carolina, Delaware, and Pennsylvania as well. He is a graduate of Haverford College and the Episcopal Divinity School; and received his Ph.D. in Religion from Duke University in 1983. His speciality is Patristic Christianity and especially the social process of Early Christianity. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Bryn Mawr College and has practiced social work and family therapy in a variety of contexts.

Carolyn and Joe will bring many gifts to the College. We will be delighted to welcome them back in the coming months.
